Hello, everyone! Denny Kubas here! I just want to tell you the story behind my song “Playing Like Ringo.”

I originally recorded it in May 1996 at Image Recording in Olcott Beach, New York. It featured Jon McCumber on bass, Gregg Stranahan on guitars, and Denny Kubas on drums and all vocals.

I wrote all the lyrics and came up with the guitar riff. The song was recorded on two-inch tape with a digital mix, and the mastering was done by Dave St. Onge. It earned me a drumstick endorsement with Regal Tip and landed me an article in the September 1997 issue of Modern Drummer magazine. The song was also featured in the movie “Raindrops,” directed by William Cowell.

Things were rolling. However, I was asked to join another group (Sanity) as their drummer, and that group signed with an indie label. So, my Ringo song was put on hold.

Thirty years later, I decided to remix it. The original tape had to be baked to eliminate any moisture. Bill Kothen handled the tape-baking process at Select Sound Studios in Kenmore, New York, in May 2026.

I then took a thumb drive of the mix to Dave St. Onge at his studio, The Digital Barn, in Ransomville, New York. I rewrote half of the lyrics and recut my vocals at The Digital Barn in June 2026. We kept all the original guitar, bass, and drum tracks and added a fresh, killer mix from Dave St. Onge.

So, here we are again! I hope you all enjoy it and have a great laugh. Ringo Starr is by far one of the greatest drummers of all time, and I have been a Beatles fan all my life!
